Chongqing Travel Guide - Luxury Travel in Chongqing
Chongqing is the usual embarkation point for the journey downstream along Yangtze River. In 1997, Chongqing separated from Sichuan Province and became a municipality under the direct control of the central government. It is the main industrial center of southwest China. Built at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers, Chongqing was a settlement of strategic importance and was served as the capital of the ancient state of Ba during the fourth century BCE. As for information about the men of Ba, little is known now, except that they buried their dead in wooden coffins which were then place on cliff ledges or in caves above the river.
The city has spilled over to the adjacent banks of Yangtze and Jialing rivers and cable cars and bridges were built to connect the newer districts with the older cliffside city center. What attracts visitors is the cliffside location overlooking the iconic Yangtze River; others by the eye-wateringly spicy food that locals are proud of. Chongqing emits a certain spice that many people just cannot resist. Others come to Chongqing for embarking Yangtze River cruising ship.
